Benjamin Branson

Benjamin was born in 2009 in Zurich. He began his cello lessons at the age of five at the ZBSM, where he currently studies with Matthieu Gutbub. Benjamin also regularly takes lessons with the famous cello pedagogue Claire Oppert in Paris and Zurich.

He won the Zurich Music Competition 2019 in the category solo cello and the Swiss Youth Music Competition 2019, Entrada and Finale (with distinction) in the category chamber music together with his duo partner Nina Gringolts. The duo also was selected to perform at the international festival “Stage for Kids” in Hamburg in February 2020.

Benjamin, who began his musical education with the focus on the piano, is a prize winner of the Zurich Music Competition 2014, the Swiss Youth Music Competition 2016 in the category piano in four hands and the Swiss Youth Music Competition 2017 in the category solo piano.

He participated in the ZBSM Summer master class at the Menton Festival in 2018 and also took part in the String Academy under the patronage of Maxim Vengerov in Monaco in 2019, where he performed at the closing concert.

In autumn 2019 Benjamin made his debut as a soloist with the “Capella Sonorus” chamber orchestra in Minsk and took part in the international festival “Children play for children”.

Benjamin participated in the ZBSM master classes of Claire Oppert in December 2019 and March 2020 in Zurich, and also travels to her studio in Paris regularly to continue his studies.
