3 Prize-Winning ZBSM Violinists Perform Rachmaninoff & Prokofiev at the Zaubersee Festival 2019 in Lucerne

Three violin students of the Zakhar Bron School of Music performed famous pieces by Rachmaninoff and Prokofiev at the Zaubersee Festival, the 8th chamber music festival dedicated to the Russian classical music. By tradition the event took place at the luxurious Schweizerhof Hotel in Luzern, Switzerland, at the end of May.

For the eighth year in a row the Zaubersee Festival attracts world stars of classical music. During the six days of this marvellous event, from May 22 until May 26, virtuosic musicians from around the world presented their interpretations of pieces by Alexander Skriabin, Igor Stravinsky, Alexander Tcherepnin, Sergei Prokofiev and other composers from Russia and Europe.

The festival was opened by Marc-André Hamelin, a virtuoso pianist and composer from Canada who received 11 Grammy Award nominations. He was followed by the young violinist Stephen Waarts, a prize-winner of the Queen Elisabeth Competition 2015. One of the most outstanding performances was given on the last day of the festival by Steven Isserlis, the phenomenal cellist from London, accompanied by Olli Mustonen, a pianist from Finland.

For the students of the Zakhar Bron School of Music it was truly honourable to perform alongside such renowned musicians. Three of our young violinists – Sophie Branson (13 years old), Ilva Eigus (12 years old) and Moe Zürcher (15 years old), all students of Liana Tretiakova and all three prize-winners of national and international competitions – performed (accompanied by Christophe Berruex, one of our piano teachers) on the closing day of the event just before the violoncello master Steven Isserlis took the stage!

This was the first time our students were invited to perform at the Zaubersee Festival, and they were the youngest musicians there. The audience fell in love with their understanding of the Russian violin music and thanked them with long and lasting applause.

All these years the festival is supported by the UBS bank along with Viktor Vekselberg and our main sponsor, the KuMa Foundation, whom we would like to thank for the lasting support and for presenting our students the opportunity to perform at this amazing event.
