More Prizes from the Swiss National Youth Music Competition

Besides our eight young violinists and cellists, all of whom won 1st prizes, our piano students also took part in the Swiss National Youth Music Competition that took place in Winterthur and Rotkreuz on 29 March 2019. They won seven prizes: one 1st, five 2nd and one 3rd.

The Swiss National Youth Music Competition is the most important national event for young musicians in Switzerland. This year it was especially fruitful for four ZBSM chamber music groups (consisting of eight of our students altogether) all four of whom won 1st prizes including two with distinction. Our piano students showed good results too:

  • 1st prize: Katya Gringolts (Solo Piano, age group up to 11 years old)
  • 2nd prize: Dan Blank (Solo Piano, age group up to 15 y.o.)
  • 2nd prize: Stella McMahon (Solo Piano, age group up to 11 y.o.)
  • 2nd prize: Connor Daison (Solo Piano, age group up to 11 y.o.)
  • 2nd prize: Lisa Bondareva (Solo Piano, age group up to 11 y.o.)
  • 2nd prize: Arkady Brunner (Solo Piano, age group up to 11 y.o.)
  • 3rd prize: Vera Pop-Lazarova (Solo Piano, age group up to 11 y.o.)

The first six students study in the class of Slava Spiridonov, and Vera is a student of Lora-Evelin Vakova. Our promising young pianist Katya Gringolts (9 years old, daughter of the famous violinist Ilya Gringolts) was invited to participate in the finals that will take place in Lugano this May.

Altogether in this competition fifteen of our students won noble prizes: nine 1st prizes, five 2nd and one 3rd prize.
