3 ZBSM Violin Students Celebrate Success at the International Hedwig Prize Competition 2024 in Berlin

From 1 to 3 November, three talented violin students of the Zakhar Bron School of Music took part in the Hedwig Prize Violin Competition for Young Violinists, held at the Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach Music High School in Berlin. All three ZBSM participants were awarded prizes in their respective age categories:

  • Katharina Filimonova — 1st Prize, Under-9 Category
  • Zlata Eismann — 2nd Prize, Under-7 Category
  • Aron Wallerstein — 3rd Prize, Under-7 Category

At the competition, the young violinists were accompanied by ZBSM collaborative pianist Yana Eismann.

About the Students

All three prize-winners study violin in the class of Inna Khriplovich, one of the most successful and dedicated violin teachers at the Zakhar Bron School of Music.

Katharina Filimonova joined ZBSM in August 2021 and is currently enrolled in the Advanced Programme. Zlata Eismann, also an Advanced Programme student, had her first violin lesson with Inna Khriplovich in 2022. Aron Wallerstein began his violin studies with Inna Khriplovich at ZBSM at the age of four and is now, like the other two violinists, an Advanced Programme student.

The Violin Competition

The Hedwig Prize Violin Competition for Young Violinists is an annual international competition founded in 2018 in Poland. In 2024, the competition was held in Berlin for the first time, with the concept that the event will alternate between Berlin and Poland in the coming years.

This year, a total of 37 young violinists aged 6 to 16 from Germany, Spain, Greece, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Poland, Ukraine, and Japan took part in the competition. The participants competed in five age categories and were evaluated by an international jury of experienced educators from across Europe.
