Five prizes at the Finale of the Swiss Youth Music Competition

At the Swiss Youth Music Competition Finale, which took place in Lugano on 15-19 May 2019, four ZBSM chamber music groups won first prizes (two with distinction) and one of our piano students a second prize.

The Swiss Youth Music Competition is the most important national event for young musicians in Switzerland. This competition will be memorable for our school, because this year our students received an overwhelming number of prizes!

In the first round already, which took place in different locations around Switzerland, our students received a whole collection of prizes: five first prizes (two of them with distinction), five second prizes and one third prize, all together eleven awards! Those young musicians, who received first prizes in the first round were allowed to participate in the Finale of the competition, which gathered the best young musicians from the whole country.

The results where outstanding: one second prize, four first prizes (two of them with distinction) and for the string trio the honour of being invited to perform at the closing ceremony of the competition.

Here are the names of the winners, our «rising stars»:

  • 1st prize with distinction: trio with Alexandra Taub (violin, age 10), Vlada Sabella (violin, age 8) and Efraim Taub (cello, age 8)
  • 1st prize with distinction: duo with Nina Gringolts (violin, age 11) and Benjamin Branson (cello, age 10)
  • 1st prize: duo with Ilva Eigus (violin, age 11) and Javelyn Kryeziu (piano, age 14), her partner from MKZ
  • 1st prize: violin duo with Sophie Branson (age 12) and Moe Zürcher (age 14)
  • 2nd prize: Katya Gringolts (age 9), category solo piano

And these are the teachers, whose longstanding dedicated work allowed such amazing results:

  • Slava Spiridonov, piano (second prize at the Finale, Katya Gringolts)
  • Matthieu Gutbub, cello (two first prizes with distinction at the Finale)
  • Liana Tretiakova, violin (four first prizes at the Finale, two of them with distinction)

On behalf of the Zakhar Bron School of Music, we congratulate our students, their teachers and families on these fantastic results and wish them further successes!
