Five master classes in one semester

During the first semester of the 2019-2020 academic year, the Zakhar Bron School of Music organized five master classes for three instruments: violin, cello and piano. All master classes were held by world famous teachers.

The master class program of the first semester of the 2019-2020 academic year at the Zakhar Bron School of Music was intense and varied: young violinists could participate in three master classes, young cellists and pianists could study at one master class each. In the ten years of the school’s existence these were the first master classes for cello and piano that we have organized.

Violin master classes were held in Zurich by Latica Honda-Rosenberg, professor at the Berlin University of the Arts, and Natalia Lomeiko and Yuri Zhislin, professors of the Royal College of Music in London. All three of these extraordinary virtuosos worked intensely with our students of various ages: from six years old violinists learning their first Vivaldi concertos to the older students who presented such gems of the violin repertoire as Brahms Scherzo and Zigeunerweisen by Sarasate. And in the last days of the first semester the honorary president and founder of our school, Professor Zakhar Bron, gave to our students a two day long master class at his Academy in Interlaken.

One of the most established piano teachers in the world today, Mira Marchenko, kindly agreed to give a master class to the young pianists of ZBSM. This was not only her first master class in our school, but her first teaching visit to Switzerland. Ms Marchenko noted the enthusiasm and eagerness to learn that she saw in each and every one of the ZBSM students. This master class also attracted students from Germany and Poland.

First lessons of our students with the outstanding children’s cello pedagogue from Paris Claire Oppert took place in June 2019 at the Monaco String Academy, which was organized by ZBSM under the patronage of Maxim Vengerov. This encounter was so inspiring that we immediately invited Claire to continue her work with our young cellists in Zurich. Her first master class at ZBSM took place in December 2019. Claire’s lessons brought together not only our students, but also young cellists and their teachers from three other music schools of the city.
