Our violin student Ilva Eigus (14 years old, studio of Liana Tretiakova) has won the 2nd prize at the 15th International Wieniawski Violin Competition which took place in September 2021 in Lublin (Poland).
The Wieniawski International Violin Competition – held once in several years since 1967 – is one of the most prestigious competitions for young violinists in the world today. It is recognized by world-famous violinists and teachers, as well as by the European Union of Youth Music Competitions based in Munich, whose Secretary General, Dr. Eckhart Rohlfs, was the guest of honour of the Competition as the largest event of this type in the world.
This year 118 participants from 29 countries were chosen from several hundreds of applicants from all over the world to compete in two categories – junior and senior. They were assessed by an 18-person jury which consisted of world-class professors from different countries from three continents.
For the first time in the competition history the second prize in the junior category was won by a Swiss participant – the ZBSM promising student Ilva Eigus. This is the highest achievement of Ilva so far, and we are very proud of her and her violin teacher Liana Tretiakova – who has been teaching her for more than ten years.
