ZBSM Violinist Tatiana Filimonova Wins 1st Prize at the XVII Paços’ Premium International Music Competition in Portugal

In June 2024, ZBSM violinist Tatiana Filimonova (12) won First Prize in the Violin Solo category in her age group at the XVII Paços’ Premium International Music Competition in Portugal.

The violin competition consisted of two rounds, held on June 28 and 29. In the preliminary round, Tatiana performed Wieniawski’s Caprice No. 3, Op. 18, and Scherzo-Tarantella. In the final round, she gave a brilliant and convincing interpretation of the first movement of Édouard Lalo’s Symphonie espagnole, demonstrating mature musical insight, virtuosic command of the instrument, and a vivid stage presence.

Following the competition results, Tatiana was invited to perform at the laureates’ gala concert, which took place on July 7, 2024, in Paços de Brandão.

Tatiana’s success at the Paços’ Premium International Music Competition marked her first prize at an international competition in the solo performance category, representing an important milestone in her artistic development.

Young Violinist & Her Violin Teacher, Inna Khriplovich

Tatiana has been studying violin at the Zakhar Bron School of Music in the class of Inna Khriplovich since the age of six. She is a laureate of numerous national competitions, including the Zurich Competition, the Swiss National Youth Music Competition, and the Central Switzerland Competition, as well as international competitions – such as Flame in Paris.

As an Advanced Programme student, she takes four hours of violin lessons per week at ZBSM with her violin teacher. In addition to her individual violin studies, she also attends group classes in solfège and music history at the school. Winning First Prize in the Violin Solo category at the competition in Portugal is her most significant achievement to date.

As a soloist, Tatiana has performed several times with the Camerata Tchaikovsky in London. She plays a violin generously loaned by Stefan Peter Greiner, one of the leading contemporary violin makers, whose instruments are played by prominent soloists and concertmasters worldwide.

About the Competition

The Paços’ Premium International Music Competition is an annual international event held at the Paços de Brandão Music Academy. It welcomes young musicians from different countries and age groups, offering competitive categories for a wide range of instruments, including strings, piano, winds, and chamber music.

The competition is organized in age-based categories and evaluated by an international jury of professional musicians and educators. Performances take place in one or more rounds, depending on the category. Prize winners are invited to participate in the official gala concert, providing young performers with valuable international stage experience.

This year marked the Zakhar Bron School of Music’s first participation in the Paços’ Premium International Music Competition. We are delighted that Tatiana’s debut was so successful, and we warmly congratulate her — along with her violin teacher — on this outstanding achievement, wishing them continued artistic success.
